| Dear Daily Actor, Last May, we were thrilled to share that Daily Acts finished as a top-three finalist in the HCLTech Americas Climate Grant Competition. Today, with additional support from North Bay Watershed Association, Rose Foundation, and the City of Petaluma, we’re excited to officially launch our new Harvest the Rain Pilot Program! This pilot program is rooted in a simple idea: across Petaluma, the narrow strips between sidewalks and streets have the potential to become vibrant forms of green infrastructure that harvest the rain using curb cuts and rain gardens! These small projects can do a lot of heavy lifting, such as capturing stormwater, filtering pollutants, reducing flooding, cooling neighborhoods with shade trees and vegetation, and creating habitat for pollinators and urban wildlife. Key aspects of the pilot include: - Developing 2-3 DIY Design Templates
- Working with the City to streamline the permiting process
- Working with Sherwood Design Engineers to analyze the impact of these types of small scale solutions for local flood mitigation
- Facilitating Community Listening Sessions to understand the impacts of flooding at the neighborhood scale
- Installing 5-7 residential-scale demonstration projects
- Introducing the DIY Design Templates and permit process through tours and/or case studies
We look forward to learning alongside residents throughout this pilot program and hope these small-scale projects will help grow a larger movement for climate-ready neighborhoods across Petaluma and beyond! |
