This Earth Day, City of Petaluma Staff helped to plant a new climate resilient habitat garden at Petaluma City Hall with Daily Acts 🦋

Dear Daily Actor,

Last month, our friends at Cool Petaluma hosted a screening of the powerful documentary Join or Die. In it, Harvard professor and social scientist Robert Putnam shines a light on a sobering truth: over the past several decades, our communities have become increasingly disconnected. Fewer neighbors know each other. Civic engagement has declined. And loneliness has reached epidemic levels.

In a world filled with suffering and injustice, it’s easy to feel isolated and powerless. But Join or Die reminds us of something essential—connection is not only possible, it’s vital. And it starts with us.

The good news? We already have what we need to begin rebuilding. Whether it’s checking in with a neighbor, joining a local group, volunteering, or sharing knowledge at community events, these small acts create ripple effects. Together, they build stronger, more resilient communities where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.

This month, Daily Acts is thrilled to offer a series of volunteer and educational opportunities designed to foster connection, inspire learning, and deepen our collective impact. Because volunteering isn't just about giving time—it's about building relationships, strengthening our social fabric, and creating the kind of thriving communities we all want to live in.

So come out and join us: build hügelkulturs and bioswales alongside youth climate leaders, help transform a local pocket park, or become a Garden Steward. These are more than projects—they're chances to reconnect with people who care deeply about creating a better future.

Let’s restore not just our landscapes, but our sense of belonging.

With gratitude,
Emily Nodal
Programs Coordinator
