A HUGE thank you to the 100+ volunteers who planted thousands of water-wise and native plants at Miwok Park & Miwok School!

Happy almost Summer Daily Actor,

My oh my, did May fly by! Thanks to the help of 100+ volunteers over two different volunteer days, we successfully transformed 22,690 sq ft of lawn at Miwok Park and Miwok Valley Charter School into a pollinator hedgerow and rain garden. This beautiful new garden will save over half a million gallons of water this year and every single year, now and forever!

New gardens loading on both sides of the fence!

Half of this new garden is at Miwok Park, while the other half is at Miwok Valley Charter School, but together they create one larger, continuous stretch of habitat for our pollinator friends. As our world becomes increasingly urbanized, creating habitat in these under utilized lawns is a great way to support our local biodiversity, while saving water and growing community. 🦋

As a part of our grant-funded Land Resilience Partnership Program we are able to collaborate with other local organizations, businesses and agencies to bring large installations like these to fruition, building more Climate Resilient Schools and Parks in addition to residential landscapes.

For these projects, Sonoma Resource Conservation District provided engineering support by designing a rain tank system at the school to water newly planted trees, and a rain garden at the park; Conservation Corps North Bay Corpsmembers spread mulch, compost and rolled out cardboard to sheet mulch the lawn in place gaining new green job skills; Rebuilding Together Petaluma helped bring volunteers to our events and nourished them with burritos; and ReLeaf Petaluma planted beautiful native trees at both locations.

We are so grateful for our community, and feel deeply inspired seeing what we can accomplish together when we connect people, groups and agencies with a common cause. Thank you for being a part of it all.

With gratitude,
Sarina Consulter
Communications Manager
